The rate follows a scale over the total number of hours: from € 70 down to € 60 per hour excluding VAT (rates of August 2026). These are starting prices: your own remuneration scheme sets the wage, and the wage sets the rate.

You choose the length of the assignment upfront and that sets the rate. If the agreed hours are not reached, a closing invoice follows. If more hours are worked, no different rate applies. The chosen rate applies to the entire assignment, including the first hours (scale of August 2026).

NewData Student is also the place for an internship in data. As a student you do an internship or paid assignment at an organisation: analyses, reports, dashboards and AI applications that are genuinely used.
An internship or first assignment can grow into a permanent job: with DetaVast the client takes you over cost-free after an agreed number of hours worked, from 1,200 hours (tracks of August 2026).

What do you earn, and who stands behind you?
The amounts above are what the client pays, not what you earn. As a student you earn € 22.12 gross per hour in your first year and as a starter € 23.39; a student moves to the starter level from the second year (rates of August 2026), including holiday pay and the reservation for holiday days.
What the client pays per hour is not what you earn, and that is not a trick. On top of your bare gross hourly wage comes almost the same amount again before we have earned anything.

What does hiring a student cost?+
Through NewData Student you pay between € 60 and € 70 per hour excluding VAT, depending on the total number of hours of the assignment (scale of August 2026). Do I get a discount when I hire someone for longer?+
Yes, if you choose a longer assignment upfront: the chosen length sets the bracket, and that rate applies to the entire assignment, including the first hours (scale of August 2026). If you choose 800 hours or more upfront, you pay € 60 per hour excluding VAT over everything. If the agreed hours are not reached, a closing invoice follows; if more hours are worked, no different rate applies.
Can I do paid data work alongside my studies?+
Yes. Through NewData Student you do paid data assignments at organisations, alongside your studies. You work on real questions, from reports to AI applications, and build a portfolio before you graduate. Registering is the first step; NewData then looks with you at what fits.
How do I find an internship or first assignment in data?+
Start with what you can already show: study projects, an analysis of your own, a dashboard. Register with that; long work experience is not needed, because the assignments and internships through NewData Student are meant for students and starters. That is how it went for the data student at Robeco, who joined directly after graduating.
